ROOTS & RHYTHM

Black Environmental Stories of Dallas

Roots & Rhythms is a free, 8-week community arts residency that brings together creativity, culture, and environmental justice in Black communities across Dallas. Led by artists Myca Williamson and Nitashia Johnson, this in-person program explores our ancestral connections to the earth while addressing real issues like food access, air quality, climate change, and neighborhood health.

Through poetry, journaling, collage, photography, film, and hands-on planting, participants will create art, learn from local organizations and city leaders, and document their own stories. Each session includes creative activities using recycled materials, conversations with guest speakers, and take-home items like journals, seeds, or art pieces.

No prior art experience is needed. All ages are welcome. This is a space to learn, create, reflect, and imagine more sustainable futures together.
